Learn About Pages

The definition of a Page is pretty straight forward.

A Page is any part of a website that is submitted once, and rarely changed. We also call this kind of data static. Pages are usually linked from the Navigation menu of a website. You can have top level pages, known as Parent pages, or Child pages, which are second level Pages.

Typical types of pages include Home, About, Services, and Contact. Child pages are typically shown under Parent pages in a drop down menu.

To add a new Page to your site, log into your Dashboard and click on Pages. You can also hover over Pages and a flyout menu will appear giving you All Pages and Add New options. Click on Add New to add a new page.

A Page consists of a Title and Body Content. In some cases, you may have to add other information such as choosing a Page Template, whether this is a Parent or Child page, Order, and Featured Image, but that is for more advanced users, and will be covered in later articles.

Make sure your Title for a Page is one or two words. Long titles are discouraged, as this information will need to fit in your Navigation menu, along with the titles of your other pages. If you are concerned about search engine optimization, you can make changes to your page's slug.

Your body content can be text, outside links to resources, graphics or photographs, and links to any content within your Media library, or a combination of any or all of these things. You can also embed video from sites like YouTube or Vimeo.

If you are using a page builder plugin such as Visual Composer, or Divi Page Builder, you will need to familiarize yourself with these tools.
